What you can call about
Start with the move that matches yours
Each page covers one kind of move in full: the Texas or federal rules behind it, what affects the price and what to check before you sign. Or skip the reading, call, and tell us about the move.

How it works
From first call to a written proposal
Call or send the form
Use the call button, or send the request form. Both come to us first, and we connect you with an independent moving company that works in the San Antonio area.
Describe the move
Have both addresses, the size of the home and your dates ready. Mention stairs, elevators, long carries and base gates, because they change the price.
Get it in writing
The mover prepares its own written proposal. In Texas it must state the most you could be required to pay, and it comes before anything is loaded.
Check the mover, then decide
Look up the mover’s TxDMV certificate in the state’s Truck Stop lookup. The contract and the move are between you and that mover, and hiring is your call.
San Antonio in numbers
Four figures that shape a move here
Each one comes from a public source, and each changes how a San Antonio move should be planned.

About one in six
The Census Bureau found 82.5 percent of San Antonio residents living in the house they had a year earlier. The rest, roughly one in six, had moved within twelve months.
122 days at 90 or more
National Weather Service normals count about 122 days a year when San Antonio reaches 90 degrees, with an average high of 96.0 in August. Loading goes better early in the day.
90 days to claim
After a move within Texas you have 90 days from delivery to file a written damage claim with the mover. Miss it and the claim can be denied.
32 historic districts
The City lists 32 locally designated historic districts, many near downtown, where curb space for a truck is scarce and a downtown parking permit has to be requested seven calendar days ahead.

Which page answers your question
Call and we connect you
Most people arrive here with one question, and each has a page of its own. Start with the one that sounds like you.
- You have never hired a mover in Texas. The moving company page explains who licenses movers here, how to look one up, the papers you are owed before loading and what to do if something breaks.
- Both addresses are in or near San Antonio. The local movers page covers hourly jobs, apartment buildings, downtown curb space, base gates and the heat.
- You are leaving the area or arriving from far away. The long distance movers page sorts moves that stay in Texas from moves that cross a state line, because the rules differ.
- You want someone else to box the house. The packing services page covers full and partial packing and what should never ride in the truck.
- The budget comes first. The cheap moving company page explains what makes a move cost less and how to compare written proposals.
Moving Company San Antonio is a referral service, so none of those pages sells a move. Each one sets out public rules and published figures, and each ends the same way: we connect you with an independent mover, and that mover gives you its own proposal in writing. The about page explains what this site is.
Texas rules
One check to make before any move in Texas
Call and we connect you
Household goods movers working within Texas need an active certificate from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, and the department runs a public lookup called Truck Stop where anyone can search a mover by name or certificate number. That check takes a few minutes and applies to every mover, including one we connect you with. This site holds no certificate of its own, because it moves nothing.
The rest of the Texas rulebook, from the written proposal with its stated maximum to the 90 days allowed for a damage claim, is laid out step by step on the moving company page.

Climate
Planning a move around San Antonio heat
Call and we connect you
The National Weather Service’s normals for San Antonio put the average high at 92.4 degrees in June, 94.9 in July and 96.0 in August, and September still averages 90.1. Over 1991 to 2020 the city saw an average of 18 days a year at 100 degrees or above, and 2023 had 75. On September 5, 2000 the temperature reached 111 degrees.
None of that stops people from moving in the hot months, but it should change the plan. Ask for the earliest start a mover offers. Keep medications, electronics and anything that melts in your own air-conditioned car. Have the electricity on at the new address, through CPS Energy, so the house is cool when the crew arrives. And watch the forecast in May, September and October, the wettest months in the normals.
If your dates are open, the months from October through April are cooler, and moveBuddha’s San Antonio cost page places them outside the May to September peak for movers. The local movers page has the month-by-month figures.
Military
Moves on orders at Joint Base San Antonio
Call and we connect you
Joint Base San Antonio includes Fort Sam Houston, Lackland, Randolph and Camp Bullis, and the Census Bureau counts 90,474 veterans living in the city. Military moves are part of the rhythm here, and they come with rules of their own.
A service member with orders may run the move personally as a Personally Procured Move. The military’s Personal Property Activity lists hiring a commercial moving company among the ways to carry one out, says counseling at your Personal Property Office is the first step, and bases the payment on certified weight tickets. Military OneSource describes that payment as up to 100 percent of what it would have cost the government to hire a mover.
Base access is the other difference. JBSA’s guidance says the driver and passengers of a commercial vehicle must be cleared and issued a base access credential, so a mover needs notice. The long distance movers page sets out the PPM steps, and the local movers page covers the gate. This site is not affiliated with the military or with Joint Base San Antonio, and it has no part in anyone’s entitlements.
Around the city
From Stone Oak to Brooks: where moves get complicated
Call and we connect you
San Antonio covers 498.84 square miles, and the City’s own plan divides it into regional centers that include Downtown, Midtown, the Medical Center, Stone Oak, UTSA, Brooks, the Greater Airport Area and the corridor at Highway 151 and Loop 1604. A mover’s day looks different in each.
- Downtown and the River Walk. Trucks compete for the curb. The City issues parking restriction permits for the downtown area at $35 per space per day, requested at least seven calendar days ahead.
- Historic districts. King William, Lavaca, Monte Vista, Tobin Hill, Dignowity Hill and Government Hill are among the 32 the City has designated. They are older neighborhoods, so ask the mover how close a truck can get.
- Apartment communities. Nearly half of the city’s households rent. Move hours, elevators and proof of the mover’s insurance are questions for the leasing office before you book.
- Neighboring cities. Alamo Heights, Leon Valley, Converse and Schertz are separate cities, not San Antonio neighborhoods. A move between one of them and San Antonio is still a Texas move under TxDMV rules.
Describe the address honestly when you call. The more a mover knows about parking, stairs and gates, the closer its proposal will be to the final bill.
Costs
What published guides say a move costs
Call and we connect you
We set no prices and give no quotes. For orientation, moveBuddha, a moving marketplace, publishes a San Antonio cost page, last updated October 7, 2026, that puts a local move of under 100 miles between $320 and $3,048 depending on the size of the home, with most between $737 and $1,721. HomeAdvisor’s national guide, updated June 17, 2026, gives an average of about $1,696.
Those are publishers’ estimates. The only figure that binds anyone is the maximum on a mover’s written proposal. What moves a bill up or down, and how to line up two proposals fairly, is on the cheap moving company page. If you want someone else to box the house, see packing services.
Questions
What people ask before they call
Is Moving Company San Antonio itself a mover?
No. It is a referral service, with no trucks, no moving crews and no TxDMV certificate of its own. Your call or form request comes to us, and we connect you with an independent moving company that works in the San Antonio area. Any proposal, contract, price and claim is between you and that mover.
Who answers when I call, and is there a charge?
The call comes to us, not to a moving company, and it costs nothing. We note what you tell us about the move and connect you with an independent local mover. Have both addresses, the size of the home, your dates and anything that will slow a crew down, such as stairs or an elevator. The mover then follows up with you and writes its own proposal, and you are free to hire nobody.
What kinds of moves can I call about?
Local moves in San Antonio and Bexar County, long hauls to other Texas cities, moves to or from another state, packing on its own, and military moves a service member arranges personally. If you are not sure which yours is, call and describe it.
Which areas does this site cover?
San Antonio and the rest of Bexar County. Nearby cities such as Alamo Heights, Leon Valley, Converse and Schertz are separate cities, and each mover sets its own service area, so say exactly where both addresses are.
How do I check the mover you connect me with?
Ask for its TxDMV certificate number and search it in the Truck Stop lookup on the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles website, looking for an Active status. For a move to another state, use the mover search run by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The moving company page on this site walks through both.
What does a move in San Antonio cost?
Only a mover’s written proposal is a real figure, and this site sets no prices. As a published guide, moveBuddha’s San Antonio cost page, last updated October 7, 2026, puts a local move of under 100 miles between $320 and $3,048 depending on the size of the home. The cheap moving company page explains what moves that number.
When is the best time of year to move in San Antonio?
If you can choose, October through April. Those months are cooler, and moveBuddha’s San Antonio cost page places them outside the May to September peak. From June through August the normal high runs from 92.4 to 96.0 degrees, so ask for an early start.
Is this site connected with the military or Joint Base San Antonio?
No. It is a private referral site with no tie to the military, and it has no role in entitlements or reimbursement. A service member planning a Personally Procured Move should get counseling from the Personal Property Office first and confirm with that office what a commercial mover has to provide.
